Gran Turismo 5 or GT5, is one of the most anticipated games of the year but did it really live up to this expectation?
Personally, I think it has lived up to its name and more, with mouth-watering graphics and immense driving simulation that could make you pass your driving test, it is a speed freaks dream. From bombing down a 3 mile road at 250 mph to hurling yourself round acute turns in a lightweight go-kart, every age group is catered for. Saying that, the exhilaration of each race might just tip an eighty year old over the edge or even make a two year old want to do a few laps around the living room.
Gameplay
Lets get started on the gameplay. Whether you are getting your MOT at your local garage, or changing your oil in your latest Bugatti Veyron, you can do everything you can do in a real garage on GT5. With detailed animations of garage workers mending your car and with the option to browse and buy a massive selection of second hand cars for bargain prices, every spendable point you earn will feel as rewarding as the last. For example, in the dealership you can buy a brand new Audi A4 for around £50,000 but in the second hand dealership you can buy the same car for around £20,000. The only difference is the mileage and maybe the chipped paint, but you will find yourself taking advantage of the reduced prices far more than the high first hand ones.
There is far more to the game than buying cars, with a-spec and b-spec options this game will take a long time to complete. A-spec mode is the traditional dog eat dog lap race in which you have full control. However, a highly controversial feature is the b-spec mode, where you control a CPU controlled driver, giving orders and commands, but ultimately you sit back and watch an unrealistically bad driver ruin your perfect 100% win record. Although you can rank up the brainless driver, he never compares to the human holding the controller. The majority of the features I have mentioned are predominately in the GT mode which is not all you can do on the near perfect game.

Although you might play with your friends in 2 player or online modes, I am convinced that a large bulk of your time on the game will be spent trying to get the best cars and drivers in GT mode. Dragon Quest IX: Simple But Effective
Dragon Quest has been a key player in the RPG world, often eclipse in the American market by Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest has not lost steam in the Japanese market and with good reason. Dragon Quest IX doesn't rely on ever growing damage points to make you feel like your characters are growing, it has a simplistic and effective class and skill system and it doesn't take itself too seriously.
All too often people associate strength in RPGs with the number of 9s you see pop up on the screen. DQ doesn't feel the need for that and I think to its advantage. Without the focus on how big the damage points are getting you have more time to focus on the strategy of your character, working within the limitations of your class. This gives Dragon Quest IX a challenging edge without taking away from playability. Sticking with defined classes with specific jobs to complete to aid your party is where Dragon Quest IX 'makes up for' not having 15 rows of 9s popping up.

But, I'm not satisfied with the results of the studies found above.
Let's read into the studies more deeply. First, the University of Central Florida study used the word "mean" to describe the "average" increase in test scores. Though statisticians debate that there is a huge difference between the meaning of the two words, I will replace "mean" with "average" to make my points more clearly. By using the word "mean" in this study infers that the calculation was made by the total sum of all test scores divided by the number of tests taken. We're basically talking about the average test scores of all the students. It's Division 101. So, the average test score increased by 8.07% for the students who played the educational video games compared to a 3.74% average increase in test scores for the students that did not play any games.
Let's put this into more practical terms. If we assume that students had an average test score of 75 out of 100, then the students who played the games increased to an average score of 81 compared to a 78 for the students that didn't play games. Not bad but not great either. The truth is that most of the students had very below average grades in Math before the study even began. So in my opinion, at best the results took a "very low" student in Math and raised him/her to just a "low" student in Math. Still below-average. I would have liked to have seen the study done on students who already achieved passing grades in Math to take part in this study.

Are we really going to put our faith in the future education of our children in video games? That study was done over two 9-week periods. And what the results don't tell you unless you read the full report is that a majority of the students had extremely low grades in Math. 64% were considered "very low" in mathematical skills prior to the study. Only 4% were considered high. That means an 8% increase in math scores would still have kept these students in the "low" part of the skills category.

I support any technique that increases Math scores. Certainly, these below-average students need as much help as they can get. If you automatically and unthinkingly apply basic concepts, you can use more of your mental energy for strategic issues, such as adjusting to specific players. Pub Quizzes - How to Compile an Initial Answer Handout Quiz Round
An initial answer pub quiz round is usually a set of 8 questions and answers. The first 7 are general knowledge questions. What makes this round different is that the last question asks you to take the first letter of each of the previous 7 answers and to rearrange them to spell out the final answer. That may be a word, place, celebrity, film basically anything. It usually relates to the subject of that round. An initial answer round generally is one that is read out by the quiz master but it can easily be made into a handout round. Here's how to build one.

1. Pick the answer to the final question. Remember how many letter dictates the length of the pub quiz round. Generally go for answers bigger than 6 but smaller than 13 letters long. A seven letter word of film is a good starting point to get practice as they do take a little longer than normal quiz rounds to complete. Let's now assume that the initial quiz round we are designing is for a pub quiz round of 8 including the final seven letter answer on question 8.
2. Now see if you can link the previous questions to the final answer. If you can't, don't worry as you could make guessing the final answer too easy by trying to make it a connection quiz. General knowledge questions would be good for the start.
3. Now pick two questions and answers from a topic not directly related to the answer but again if possible they may have an indirect link.

The prestigious GT Academy has returned for its third installment in 2011, and one lucky winner will be given the opportunity to drive for the Nissan racing team. The mad rush for the fastest times opened up on the Sony PS3 earlier this month, and drivers have until April 17th 2011 to submit their fastest times.
One question that so many people ask is, how can I do well at GT Academy? There's no single trick or solution, but there is a selection of things that you can do to try and improve your times.
Make Yourself Comfortable
Make sure that you're comfortable to drive. This means a good driving position, and a chair that you can sit comfortably in for long periods of time - it's best to continuously lap solid for at least an hour if you're looking to reach your true potential.
Have the right set up
How many people in the top 100 places have done it with the regular PS3 controller? Very few. It's a simple fact that you'll never do your best time without a decent racing wheel. I suggest that you get yourself either a Logitech G27 or a Logitech Driving Force GT if you're truly aiming to finish high.
It's suggested by Lucas Ordóñez, winner of GT Academy 2009, that driving barefoot helps a lot when squeezing out those times. Both previous winners, Lucas Ordóñez and Jordan Tresson have also suggested that the Bumper camera is best, as it offers an unrestricted view of the road ahead.
